The flag is off, the race is on! The Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2026 officially kicked off on Sunday (21/6/2026), met with tremendous enthusiasm from organizers, participants, and the local community alike. More than 10,000 runners from 17 countries enlivened this colossal annual event held at the Prambanan Temple Park in Yogyakarta. True to its tagline, “More Than a Race,” the Mandiri Jogja Marathon offers more than just a sporting event; it provides a unique running experience amidst the beauty of Yogyakarta —a region renowned for its culture, the hospitality of its people, and its nature.
Offering four categories —marathon (42 km), half-marathon (21 km), 10K, and fun run (5K)— the Mandiri Jogja Marathon takes runners past cultural heritage sites such as Prambanan, Sewu, Lumbung, and Bubrah temples, as well as through the pristine, scenic countryside of Yogyakarta, offering a visual treat for all participants.
Setting a benchmark for sports tourism in Indonesia, the Mandiri Jogja Marathon strives to create a digital economic ecosystem that empowers the community through initiatives like the “Mandiri Laku Lokal” program and the UMKM Festival. Local involvement includes at least 27 local brands and over 100 UMKM from the area surrounding the Prambanan Temple Park. The Mandiri Jogja Marathon continues to prove that its “More Than a Race” tagline is not merely a slogan but a principle embodied through real, tangible action.
The Mandiri Jogja Marathon enhances the experience by incorporating values of sustainability and circularity into what would otherwise be a standard race pack. The race packs distributed to all participants are made from our Pabtex —came from 100% recycled materials and RCS100 certified. Woven into the Pabtex fabric that is now held by each participant, is a story of love for the planet, a connection to our traditional weavers, and our shared hope for a circular economy for a better Indonesia. This makes the run all the more meaningful –because every step tells a story.
